This Fall Jacket Style Is the Bomb
The It Girls have decided. The jacket currently winning the fall 2016 trends is…drumroll, please…the embroidered silk bomber. We’ve seen them on the runway at Gucci and Louis Vuitton, and now the trend is about to explode, just in time for fall jacket season. Olivia Palermo, Chiara Ferragni, and most recently, Diane Kruger (ever the trendsetters), have all hopped on the embroidered silk bomber bandwagon already—and, we’ve got to say, it looks so good. While the style is chic and worthy of wearing on its own merit, the embroidered silk bomber also has a fascinating history, dating back to the end of World War II. According to Vogue, while stationed in Japan towards the end of the war, a soldier wanted a memento from the country and took his Army-grade bomber to be embroidered with colorful flowers, birds, and other indigenous motifs. Lo and behold, he started a trend, and his fellow comrades marched over to the local tailors to have their jackets customized before returning stateside.
So thanks to that one innovative GI way back when, we now have a fall jacket to wear to work with skirts and dresses, and on the weekend we jeans. Pretty cool story, right? It’ll make quite the brunch conversation.
