Twilight Beckons: What Makes Vampires So Sexy?

If you’re anything like the millions of other Americans expected to contribute to box office-busting records this weekend, you’re going to line up for Twilight, the hotly anticipated teen romance/chick flick/vampire movie that opens today. Its arrival got me thinking about the vampire’s place in fashion–why are they consistently portrayed as such a sexy bunch? Find out what I mean with a few hot photos, after the jump…

EXHIBIT A: There’s no denying that the cast of Twilight is on fire–Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson’s forbidden love is a modern day Romeo and Juliet story wrapped in teen angst and longing and, um, did we mention how hot these kids are?

EXHIBIT B: The fall runways. Rodarte (top) and Derek Lam (bottom) embraced the dark angel spirit with blood-stained pouts, big hair, miles of black lace, and an attitude that screams “come hither.” I’d gladly join the bloodsucking community if it meant I could wear Rodarte.

EXHIBIT C: Corey Haim, Corey Feldman, a young Kiefer Sutherland and Brad Pitt have all played vampires with supreme sex appeal (Pitt in Interview with the Vampire, the rest in the incredibly cool The Lost Boys). Need we say more?
