VMA Style Tranformations: The Fashion at the After-Parties Was Better Than the Preshows
There was some incredible fashion last night at the 2016 MTV VMAs, both on the red carpet and on stage. Beyoncé arrived in a major feathered creation and dripping in millions of dollars worth of diamonds—that immediately sparked several Internet memes, of course—with Blue Ivy in tow. And everyone from Britney Spears, to Kim Kardashian, to Naomi Campbell arrived in bold, sexy looks (see our best dressed here). But celebs continued to slay style wise post-VMAs. Aside from being the place to celebrate a win or partying in a more relaxed environment (i.e., away from the TV cameras), an awards show after-party is also an excuse for one of our favorite things: the wardrobe change. Keep scrolling to see who changed—and surprisingly, who didn’t—for the VMA after-parties, and what they wore.
Video Vanguard Award winner Rihanna didn’t walk the red carpet at the VMAs, but had an outfit change for each of her five performances there–starting with this pink Hood by Air look.
For her after-party, she changed into a green beaded number.
Beyoncé won the VMAs arrivals in feathered Francesco Scognamiglio Couture
For dinner after the show, Bey wore the last dress she performed in at the show: a Yolan Cris wedding gown.
Ariana Grande wore this two-piece custom Alexander Wang outfit on the red carpet…
…then went super casual—not to mention comfortable—in denim overalls after the show.
Naomi Campbell had not one but TWO gorgeous Brandon Maxwell dresses. Above the one she had on for arrivals.
She went for a longer Maxwell piece postshow.
You might think a celeb would choose a jumpsuit for after the awards. Not Hailey Baldwin. She wore this black lace Georges Chakra first.
And then put on a white strapless David Koma style.
Hailee Steinfeld picked a Balmain rainbow minidress for her first look.
After the show, she switched to Elie Saab.
And Kim Kardashian had on a sheer, body-con mini by John Galliano…
…that she must have really loved—because she kept it on for dinner with Bey, Alicia Keys, and Cassie.
