It’s feeling like Taylor Swift’s bleached-blond hair is really affecting her fashion sense, with recent outfits seemingly picked specifically to complement the new hue. The pop star is in town for tonight’s Met Gala (she’s a co-chair) and has been stepping out in clothing that reads differently from the retro skirt-and-heel combos she’d previously stuck with as a signature. These looks have been way more daring with a rock ‘n’ roll, punkish spin that feel more ’90s than ’50s (the decade that created her most iconic style moment).

Shopping in Hollywood would have previously called for a uniform of a pert mini, heels, and a handbag dangled in the crook of her elbow. Not so now, with the star opting for black shorts and a tee, a shoulder bag, and white sneakers.

When she stopped by Gigi Hadid’s birthday party, it was dressed as a rock goddess, not America’s sweetheart. Her one-shoulder Haney dress had an asymmetrical hemline that felt like it was ripped backstage for an impromptu style statement. Instead of heels or strappy sandals, she finished the look with platform boots.

Tay partied in NYC on Saturday and decided not to sizzle in a minidress or bra top but a long-sleeve sheer jumpsuit by Haney. The style showed plenty of skin and had a saucy zipper front, making it sexy in a new way for Taylor, who tends to pick minis that show off her legs or crop tops. The leather jacket added an extra layer against cool evening air and confirmed the outfit’s overall badass vibe.

Beyond the new hair, Taylor might be able to thank Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour for inspiring her new look. The blonder-than-blond crop made its debut on the magazine’s latest cover and was used by Wintour and team to redefine her style. “We very much wanted to give Taylor a new look, [to] make her into a rock ‘n’ roll chick,” the editrix told Today.
