Eat Like Me: Jada Pinkett Smith’s Food Secret (and OMG-Bikini Body)

I’m trying a new thing where I eat less sugar and fewer empty carbs after the lunch hour. Well, I should say I was trying a new thing–I got a little off-track in the last week–but it was going well (I lost a few LBs and I wasn’t nearly as tired at night, which is always a bonus, since my working hours usually start after 8 P.M.). So seeing this from Jada Pinkett Smith inspired me to start thinking a little leaner and greener….

Jada tweeted this photo of herself emerging from the surf, James Bond girl-style, with the message: “To my Forty and over crew! Don’t believe the hype…we DO get better with age!” (Jada turned 40 last September.)

And she says her better-with-age body is thanks to one secret: “I don’t eat for pleasure. I eat for my schedule, so I have to eat high-protein, lots of greens and healthy carbs so that I don’t fall flat on my face.”

While I’m down with the “lots of greens and healthy carbs” advice, I’m not sure I’ll ever be one of those people who don’t occasionally eat for pleasure. I’m not saying everything has to be a crazy yum-fest, but I’ve tried experiments in utilitarian eating and it, um, doesn’t last very long.

Are you a pleasure-eater or, like Jada, a schedule-eater? A little bit of both? What works best for you?
