Starbucks Is Going for a Michelin Star With This New Breakfast Item
Starbucks is going for a Michelin star with their latest menu item. The beloved coffee brand is continuing to prove that global chains can still be cutting edge with Sous Vide Egg Bites. The item, which joins the already-robust morning lineup that includes breakfast sandwiches under 500 calories, comes in two flavors: egg white and red pepper and a more decadent option, bacon and gruyere.
“A foodie delight, even when you’re on the go,” the brand’s description of the breakfast menu item reads. “We’ve taken cage-free eggs and prepared them using the French ‘sous vide’ technique resulting in a velvety texture that’s bursting with flavor. We added aged Gruyere and Monterey Jack cheese and topped them with Applewood smoked bacon for a delicious, high protein, convenient breakfast.”
For those uninitiated with the fancy cooking method—who didn’t see it painfully demonstrated in Bradley Cooper’s Burnt—it means to cook in a vacuum-sealed bag in water. It basically ensures that none of the food’s tasty juices, aromatics, and marinades get lost in the cooking process. And for those who care less about their food’s cooking technique than what they’re actually putting into their body, it’s an exciting move. Starbucks just made it even easier to grab a wheat-free, low-calorie breakfast in a rush.
Healthy breakfast fans will also be delighted to learn that after the Sous Vide Egg Bites hit stores on January 10, Starbucks will be launching a Certified Gluten-Free Breakfast Sandwich come this Spring. Your Instagram brunch game just got a little more convenient.
