Gender-Neutral Emoji Have Finally Arrived!
Hundreds of new emoji, including more smiley faces, gender-neutral characters, new clothing options, and mythical creatures are coming with iOS 11.1’s launch, so get ready to blast your group chat. While these new emoji will be included in next week’s developer and public beta, you’ll actually be able to preview them today. Back in July we got a glimpse of some of the new emoji we can expect to see in the launch (previewed below), and guys, we’re pumped.
In addition to the emoji above, the launch will feature new genderless characters:
New smileys:
Mystical emoji:
Wellness emoji:
And, of course, some new animals:
The launch will also include new food, hearts, clothing, and other emoji to help users to express themselves creatively and with more diverse options. “With thousands of emoji available on iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch, and Mac, there are many ways to add personality to every message,” Apple said in a statement on their newsroom website. “New emoji include Woman with Headscarf, Bearded Person, and Breastfeeding, and food items such as Sandwich and Coconut. More animals and mythical creatures like T-Rex, Zebra, Zombie, and Elf are a fun way to describe situations and new Star-Struck and Exploding Head smiley faces make any message more fun.”
In addition to all of the emoji above, one of our favorites is the Love-You Gesture, which was based on the American Sign Language sign for “I love you.” This is just another example of the strides Apple has been making to be more inclusive with its emoji, with the goal of helping every user feel equally represented so we can all have a uniquely personal experience. We can’t wait to start using them!
