Fashion Flashback Friday: 10 Reasons Why Saved by the Bell?s Lisa Turtle is On-Trend
So we’ve flash-backed to the original hipster, a SoCal It Girl, and a before-his-time Rich Kid DJ. Now it’s time to say hello to Saved by the Bell‘s resident fashionista, Lisa Turtle (played by Lark Voorhiees), who is right on time in terms of style because everything she wore back in the early 1990s is on trend right now in the summer 2013. The 90s are SO back. Let’s discuss the déja vu looks:
More-Than-Just-Denim Dresses: We were just talking about how to take the go-to denim frock up a notch. I especially like how Lisa wore her floral-blocked and tiered dress with cowboy boots. It’s kinda Isabel Marant-ish.
Floral Suits: Solange, Esther Quek, and Kilo Kish have nothin’ on Lisa Turtle who instantly raised the class level of The Max in this matching printed suit set. Such a sartorial contrast to Slater and his signature tank tops. Well, at least he was wearing a shirt.
Leopard Print/Smoking Slippers/Studs: Of course, Lisa would make a triple threat of super trendy looks work all together. Aren’t those velvet flats are so Charlotte Olympia?
Crop Tops and Printed Shorts: Two years before crop top addict Miley Cyrus was even born, Lisa Turtle rocked the look—along with a pair of very-today printed shorts. And yes, that is a scrunchie peeking out of her teased up hair.
The Scrunchie: Funny, we were just discussing the return of those polarizing fabric-covered hair elastics. Props to Lisa for opting for a one that’s roughly half the size of her head in that inimitable Saved by the Bell movie: Hawaiian Style.
Black and White: This non-color combo was a common sight on the celeb-filled red carpet this season. If you look closely, she accessorized with a gold ankle bracelet—should we bring those back, too?
Colored Denim: Nikki just dished on five fresh new ways to wear the trend, but how about with zebra print smoking flats and a statement belt, courtesy of Lisa Turtle?
Roaring 20s-Chic: In this flapper-esque get-up, Lisa could totally play Lady Mary’s new confidante or maybe Cousin Rose’s trouble-making new friend in the upcoming season four of Downton Abbey. (This costume was actually part of a “we’re rich” fantasy sequence during the episode in which Slater discovers an oil geyser bubbling below the Bayside High soccer field. You just have to watch.)
Elevated Denim: Lisa’s appropriately dressed for not celebrating poor Screech’s forgotten birthday in a gold-embroidered pair of acid washed jeans. So very Balmain.
Ironic sweatshirts: What do you know, even when Lisa is pledging allegiance to her future alma mater (of course it’s FIT), she’s totally on-trend-in-2013 with a designer-looking sweatshirt. Maybe sweatshirt addict Cara Delevingne was a Saved by the Bell fan?
Which of Lisa Turtle’s looks is your favorite? Which trend are you wearing these days? Does this sway you into re-embracing scrunchies? Happy Flashback Friday, everyone!
