10 Netflix Movies to Remind You Being Single Is the F*cking Best
When the weather outside is frightful and you’re sitting alone on your couch feeling not-so-delightful, ditch the pity party and rejoice! Because A) being single during the holidays is insanely fun (so many parties!) and B) ain’t nobody gonna steal that remote from you and flip off that Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life marathon.
If you’re looking for some inspiration on what to queue up and celebrate being single, you’ve come to the right place. We promise these movies and TV shows streaming on Netflix are so good you won’t even have bandwidth for passive Tindering in the background.
Single Awkward Female
Watch this and LOL as hard as you did the time your college roommate told the story of sleeping with her sexy economics TA and then watching him blush so hard in class the next week that the professor had to ask if he needed to see a doctor. Debra DiGiovanni is an award-winning TV/radio staple with good reason: the comic will have you cracking up over hilarious tales of lust, love, dating and more—all served with a refreshing dose of reality.
Friends with Benefits: Season 1
You know those nights where you get the blues over not having a partner to, uh, send sweet texts to and get Chinese takeout with? The night you binge this will not be one spent battling relationship FOMO. This rollicking sitcom is loaded with jokes, epic FWB hookups, and plenty of hot leading ladies and gents to make you hail singledom because of the opportunity to chat up hotties around town, sans guilt.
Love: Season 1
Don’t let the title fool you: this show about the ups and downs of modern dating was co-created by Judd Apatow and stars Gillian Jacobs, dream best friend, as a woman who can’t get out of her own way when it comes to relationships. When things go wrong on her quest to find love, they go really wrong, and you’ll be stoked you don’t have to put up with that nonsense yourself. Let’s call it singledom schadenfreude.
Chelsea
Just when you’re lamenting about how you think you’ll never meet someone, Ms. Handler comes in swinging to tell you about how freaking awesome it is to be single. From intimate roundtable discussions with SJP, Julianna Margulies, and your other favorite celebs, to hilarious and cringey stunts, each episode has plenty of potent nudges that single life certainly has its merits. And if all else fails at helping you crack a smile, did we mention her dog is extremely cute?
The Fundamentals of Caring
This 2016 Netflix feature shows a softer side of Paul Rudd. Yes, there is a lot of testicle humor, but there are also poignant exchanges and roadtrip thrills—pretty much everything you could ask for when you’re sitting at home wondering whether you should just masturbate and call it a night (no shame in that game, btw).
Crossroads
This 2002 classic was obviously the vehicle (pun intended) to Britney’s crossover success, but there’s also side-of-the-road adventures, time capsules (remember those?!), fireside camping, and almost-kisses interrupted by mosquito bites that will make your inner 16-year-old self cringe and chuckle in tandem.
10 Rules for Sleeping Around
This hysterical rom-com is worth grabbing your other single friends for and gathering them around your couch. Watching other peoples’ threesomes, party hijinks, and awkward situations will make you all glad to be single. We’re not promising an Academy Award winner here, but you won’t have to pay too much attention to the screen in order to get the gist, which means more time talking about last week’s IRL Tinder drama.
Friends: Seasons 1-10
What SATC is to the jazzed-about-dating (even when things go awry) posse, Friends is to… everyone else. Basically, we’d be remiss not to include the hit, Manhattan-based sitcom, and you’d be negligent if you didn’t not turn on an episode or two for feel-good vibes…even if it’s for the seventh time.
Slow Learners
This film is like your next -oor neighbor who keeps giving you the eye in the elevator every time you cross paths: awkward in the best way possible. There will be book clubs, reinvented sex lives, bar punches (and bartop dancing), with a cute ending that can almost help you restore faith in the current-day dating reality.
Strictly Sexual
A movie that lives up to its title—and then some. This steamy comedy even inspired its own series on Hulu. While it does a damn good job of snapping you out of any kind of breakup funk, it does an even better job of reminding you why you should be so happy to be a single lady.
