12 Awesome DIY Halloween Costumes From Our Own Wonderful Readers
Need some inspiration for your Halloween costume this year? Look no further than our own lovely and creative Smitten readers, who were kind enough to share their photos. Ladies, you’ve impressed the hell out of me and I wish you could all come to my Halloween party so I could see what you’ve come up with this year!
Bri’s into group costumes, so last year she and her roommates went as the minions from* Despicable Me* in self-made costumes that she describes as simple but “a huge hit at all the parties.” I bet; who doesn’t love that movie?
Cory and her boyfriend dressed up as Olive Oyl and Popeye in costumes they sourced from a thrift store.
Reader Mohini put together an adorable Katy Perry last year, complete with a lollipop prop and a light-up rainbow tutu. I’m expecting this years Katys to be of the “Roar” variety.
Reader Natalia and her friends were upset to hear they were “too old” to trick-or-treat together, so they responded by stepping up their costume game with this human-size set of crayons.
(I had to show the back view too, so you could see the names they gave each color!)
Reader Natalia calls this her “coolest” costume, and I agree. She totally nailed the Slash look (and adds that her cigarette isn’t real. I approve).
I love that Kadeshia and her friend really incorporated their dorm room surroundings into their scary costumes (a corpse and a dead crime-scene investigator).
Six or seven years ago, Kate and her brother and sister (who happen to be triplets!) dressed up as the Jonas Brothers. Her brother is dressed as Nick, but FYI, they’re all wearing girls’ jeans. Ha! (P.S. This costume is relevant again this year as a last memorial before they possibly break up.)
Last year Sara and her friends put together a group costume I can get behind: Obscure Harry Potter characters! Sara was a unicorn, and you can’t see, but of course she’s wearing sparkly heels.
Fans of It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia might recognize reader Alesha and her boyfriend as Charlie Kelly and his Kitten Mittens.
Chloe and her boyfriend didn’t technically dress up together, but his Breaking Bad costume and hers as Selene from Underworld are great.
Elese’s friends wanted to be sexy animals…so she showed up as a roadkill squirrel. Her hilarious costume started as a pre-made wolf suit, but she MacGyver’ed it into a squirrel, complete with blood stains, a black eye, and tire tracks on the front. Morbidly funny.
Eva and Emmi make traffic cones seem adorable in their homemade costumes.
Which costume is your favorite? What are you dressing up as this year?
