Engagement Ring #tbt: Queen Elizabeth???s Super-Sentimental Ring From Prince Philip
Waaaaay back in 1947, a young Prince Philip of Greece and Denmark proposed to Britain’s Princess Elizabeth, who would go on to become Queen Elizabeth II, the second longest-reigning (as of now) British monarch. To craft a fit-for-a-princess engagement ring, Prince Philip selected a 3-carat round diamond and 10 smaller diamonds from a tiara owned by his mother, Princess Alice. The diamonds were set in platinum by London jeweler Philip Antrobus Ltd., and the ring is still frequently seen on QE2’s left hand—along with her wedding band—even today.
This dressed-down QE2 is at the Royal Windsor Horse Show in 2010.
Let’s go in for a closer look, shall we?
