’80s Trend Revisited: AquaNet Hairspray Is BACK. Need I Say More?

We showed you the ’80s-inspired big big BIG hair from the fall Fashion Week runways earlier this year. So with perfect timing, the most ionic hairspray of all history (if I do say so myself)–AquaNet–has given their Extra Super Hold Hair Spray a hot pink makeover. I’m sure this is bringing back some, cough, great memories of your two (or three or four) inch high tresses…

When Kim Cattrall busted out in this ’80s hair reincarnation for the *Sex and the City 2 *movie, I noticed people in the audience either: A) couldn’t stop chuckling because it reminded them of some very similar memories dousing their own hair with AquaNet or B) totally cringing over the said memories from their hair-raising middle school and high school days.

I suppose option B is the reason that in my house, most of the photos from the ’80s are stored in a box far, far away from the other photo albums. I was particularly looking for my older sister’s pictures (as I remember her anti-gravity permed ‘do outdid the heights of all her girl friends…combined), but I couldn’t find them because she probably stashed them away in vault somewhere.

Everyone had their experiments of “Who could get their hair higher?” pastimes from the ’80s. Whether it was frizzy bangs, funky side ponys or mullets with their own identity, they all aimed to reach to the high heavens with the help of an intense volume raising hair holder like AquaNet. For my thinner strands, I need a super hold spray like this to get my hair to stay in place, though I’m not sure I’ll be going for the va-va-voom volume like Kim’s anytime soon. AquaNet’s hitting the stores this summer with its new, mod design but boasts the same big hair benefits as it did back in the day:
