CoverGirl Just Launched Its Most Inclusive Line of Foundation Ever

Forty is the magic number for foundation these days. Thank Rihanna. Ever since Fenty hit shelves last fall, it’s seemed like every makeup brand has raced to drop its own iteration of 40 foundation shades. By and large, those expansive releases have stayed in the prestige market, and judging by Fenty’s sell-out rate, people have been happy to pay for them. But here’s the good news: CoverGirl launched its newest foundation today—the TruBlend Matte Made Foundation—and, you guessed it, it comes in 40 variations.

While the drugstore is finally expanding its offerings, (Maybelline recently made news for its expanded range of 40 hues), it’s still pretty rare to find an affordable line this wide. The average usually wavers around 12 to 16 shades. Previously, CoverGirl’s largest foundation range was its TruBlend Liquid Makeup in 21 shades, so this is a marked step up. Especially given the price: the TruBlend Matte will be going for $8.49 to $11.49, depending on the retailer.

As for the foundation itself, as the name indicates, it brings a matte finish to skin along with medium to full coverage. Twenty-six shades are new to the TruBlend line, and the brand has also adopted a new shade-organizing system. Also in the footsteps of brands like Fenty, MAC, and Make Up for Ever, CoverGirl paired the names in the new foundation line with numbers signifying where in the spectrum each shade falls. If you’ve ever stood torn between whether you’re a Soft Beige or Buff Bisque, this will save you. The colors are divided between four ranges—Light, Medium, Tan, and Deep—and each one gets a name, letter, and number. The lightest is Fair Porcelain L10 and the darkest is Espresso D90, which is also smart, since it leaves room for the brand to expand on either side and within the numbers if need be.

Take a look at the shades below and start mentally planning your next drugstore run.
