These Epic ’90s Hairstyles Will Give You Major Nostalgia
When Jennifer Aniston recently took over Living Proof’s Instagram last week, we were instantly reminded how amazing the ’90s were with her crazy-good hair throwback. It got us walking down memory lane of all the hair magic that happened in the Greatest Decade Ever. While that title is certainly up for debate, these photos of ’90s hair greatness offer some serious proof:
Jennifer Aniston, circa 1996

Aniston shared this photo of herself alongside Picture Perfect costar Andrea Bendewald (fun fact: Andrea just so happened to be a bridesmaid in her wedding when she married Brad Pitt in 2000). The ladies paired boho flower dresses with matching midlength layered cuts, eye-grazing bangs, and volume, loads of volume.
Britney Spears, 1999
At the 1999 American Music Awards—one of her first red carpet appearances—Spears hit the scene with baby bangs and super-crimped hair topped with a girly beaded headband.
Sarah Michelle Gellar, 1997
The Buffy star attended a red-carpet premiere with a sleek updo featuring two teeny, stick-straight slivers of hair to frame her face—a trend we admittedly still don’t understand today.
Drew Barrymore, circa 1990
Barrymore was rocking flowers in her hair way before flower crowns became a thing. This single daisy tucked behind her ear was her trademark throughout the decade.
Jennifer Love Hewitt, 1998
Before there was Pinterest, hundreds of thousands of prom-goers taped this photo of Hewitt’s MTV Movie Awards hairstyle on their bedroom wall. This twisty, sectioned-off updo felt unique for a special occasion—butterfly clips optional.
Rachel Leigh Cook, 1997
Somewhere between a pixie and her *She’s All That *lob existed this wonderfully choppy short hairdo that showcased Cook’s flawless skin and gorgeous cheekbones.
Gwen Stefani, 1997
We were mad about mini buns a la Stefani’s signature twisty look in the ’90s. Cleary, the aesthetic was incomplete without pastel shadow and vampy lips.
Meg Ryan, 1998
During the ’90s, Ryan’s piecey, long pixie with a haphazard side part hit the right balance of edgy and flirty.
