8 of the 10 Most Popular Instagram Posts in 2016 Belong to Selena Gomez

What do you think are the most popular Instagrams from 2016? Kanye West memes? A shirtless Nick Jonas selfie? Nope, 2016 is actually the year of Selena Gomez.

We expected that. After all, Gomez is the queen of many things. Her brilliant and nuanced second studio album, Revival, proves she is the queen of pop. Her impassioned speech at the 2016 American Music Awards proves she is a queen in her fans’ eyes. And now new data proves—or, rather, confirms—that she is the queen of Instagram.

This didn’t exactly need proving; we learned earlier this year that Gomez is the most popular celebrity on Instagram with 103 million followers. However, Instagram took things a step further and revealed the 10 most popular posts published on the social media platform this year. And—what do you know?!—eight of them belong to Queen Gomez.

This isn’t shocking, but the content of these eight particular Gomez posts might surprise you. She looks stunning in all of the pictures; however, they’re not exactly interesting. In most of them, she is simply sitting and smiling. The anomaly is a shot Gomez took with a fan while on tour, which is beautiful and compelling. But most of the photos are, quite frankly, boring. The most popular one is literally just Gomez drinking from a Coke bottle. What can we say? We love her like a love song.

The other two posts that round out the top 10 belong to soccer player Cristiano Ronaldo. Both pictures feature him cradling some kind of trophy. I don’t know what it is, but it looks important. SPORTS!
