Ciara Is Getting Mommy-Shamed for This Instagram of a Fun Day Out With Her Baby

The Internet has made it very easy to mommy-shame celebrities. Everyone from Chrissy Teigen to Jessica Simpson has dealt with trolls clogging their social media feeds with unsolicited opinions about their parenting. (For the record, mommy-shaming is never OK. Ever. Science proves it!) Even Pink received a swarm of unnecessary negativity last week after she posted a photo of herself cooking with her kids. But the rage cycle has moved on, as it always does, to someone new: Ciara. What’s her so-called crime, you ask? Just having a good time with her daughter on vacation.

The “1, 2 Step” singer is currently living it up in China with her husband, Russell Wilson, and two kids: three-month-old Sienna and three-year-old Future Zahir (whom she had with her ex-boyfriend, rapper Future). The trip looks amazing, to be honest: Ciara keeps posting gorgeous photos of her family taking in the country’s culture and landmarks—including the Great Wall of China, which is where her mommy-shaming incident took place.

Ciara posted a video of her family tobogganing (just a fancy word for sliding) down the Great Wall. To be clear: This isn’t something they did spontaneously or illegally. It’s a legitimate activity you can actually do at the Great Wall. And it looks like Ciara took all the necessary safety precautions before hitting the slide: She put baby Sienna in a carrier close to her chest, and Future Zahir sat squarely in Wilson’s lap.

But this didn’t stop the mommy-shamers from taking out their pitchforks. “Taking a baby on a Tobagon [sp]? Get a grip lady,” one person wrote. “So irresponsible with an infant. Dumb celebrities,” wrote another. The comments get uglier from there. (Take a look at Ciara’s original post if you’re curious/feel like diving in a garbage fire.)

There’s absolutely no need for all this hate. The Great Wall toboggan is probably operated like any amusement park ride: There are most likely staff members in place whose job is to make sure the riders are safe. Sienna and Future Zahir straight-up wouldn’t have been allowed on it if there was an issue (again, probably).

Plus, Ciara knows what’s right and safe for her kids more than anyone. We have no doubt she thoroughly checked out this toboggan before putting her kids on it. Chill out, people. Don’t rain on Ciara’s Great Wall parade.
