‘SNL’ Parodied the Oscars With Its Too-Real ‘Harassment Awards’ Sketch

Sunday’s Oscars marks the end of this year’s awards season, which expanded from honoring on talented casts and crews to focusing on the industry’s prevalent sexual harassment issues. At the Golden Globes in January actresses and actors wore all black in solidarity with the Time’s Up movement, and female winners made rousing speeches in support of their fellow women in the fight against this kind of behavior. And although we’re looking forward to the star-studded Oscars ceremony, SNL came up with a way to celebrate “this year’s worst behavior in entertainment” with a new kind of awards show: The Grabbies.

SNL cast members Beck Bennett and Cecily Strong star as red-carpet reporters interviewing some of the night’s nominees. First up: Tom Sturgeson (cast member Alex Moffat), who is up for the Handsiest Actor award. “It’s really upsetting to be here tonight,” he says. “I gave out a lot of unwanted massages to my female costars. Also, I showed an intern my penis and said, ‘Any ideas?’”

The reporters move on to the next nominee, Lenny Martin (cast member Pete Davidson), who was nominated for Most Open Robe. He gives a preview of his acceptance speech: “First I’d like to thank guns for pivoting the national conversation away from harassment.”

The red-carpet reporters go on to interview men nominated in the categories for Best Non-Apology and the Cecil B. Molestin’ Award. And one woman is actually nominated: Catherine LeBourge (cast member Aidy Bryant) is the first female nominee at the Grabbies because she bit an intern’s penis off.

The skit is simultaneously incredibly on point and fairly brutal—watch it below:
