The Best Taylor Swift and Lorde Moments at the VMAs

If Taylor Swift is at an awards show, I’m watching Taylor Swift at that awards show like a hawk. Her awkward, uninhibited dance moves delight me—she seriously does not care that live television captures her looking like a baby-deer middle-schooler on the reg. And more often than not, she spends the whole ceremony making mischief with another famous lady. (See: Swift and Lena Dunham at the 2013 Grammys, Swift and Selena Gomez at the 2013 VMAs.) At last night’s VMAs, Swift and her BFF du jour, Lorde, made quite the impish audience pair. They may have opposite stances on pants (Lorde’s were long and flowy, Swift’s were nonexistent), but they clearly have the same heart. My favorite moments they shared:

Swift showed up to their row in a leotard and butt-checked Lorde. Here, Lorde can be seen mouthing re: the outfit, “What’s this?” Ha!

Then Lorde won the award for best rock video—she’s the first female to ever do so, by the way—and Swift absolutely lost it. (As did Lorde’s look-alike big sister, Jerry).

Swift, a true friend, remained as excited when Lorde got back to her chair several minutes later.

Lorde, also a true friend, did not make fun of Swift’s dancing. (Jordin Sparks, on the other hand, was clearly mortified by it.)
