This Fan Theory Combines ‘Friends’ and ‘Parks and Recreation’ in the Craziest (but Oddly Believable) Way

What if we told you that Friends and Parks and Recreation existed in the same universe? Believable, right? Now, what if we told you that a major character from Friends and a major character from Parks and Recreation dated? You’d probably think we were deranged.

Before you start lighting your torches, we didn’t actually dream this theory up. A Reddit user named Phefflin did. But don’t burn him/her at the stake, either: The theory actually makes some legitimate points.

Here it is in a nutshell: In the seventh season of Friends, Rachel muses that she doesn’t sleep with men on the first date. Monica then rattles off a list of men whom Rachel supposedly did this with. And one of those men is named—wait for it—Ben Wyatt.

At this time in Friends, Rachel is dating her 25-year-old assistant, Tag. Rachel repeatedly talks about how “cute” Tag’s butt is, which Phefflin thinks is the connection to Parks and Recreation: Leslie Knope is equally as fond of Ben’s butt during their relationship. From here, Phefflin hypothesizes that, in 2000—when Ben was 26, roughly the same age as Tag—he briefly moved to New York City after failing as mayor of Partridge, Minnesota. That’s when he met Rachel, who was on her 25-year-old-boys-with-cute-butts kick, and the two slept together.

We know, we know—this entire theory is contingent on the universal appreciation of cute butts. However, we’ve seen fan theories based on far more ridiculous things.
