Throwback Thursday: How Freakin’ Cute Was Leonardo DiCaprio at His First Golden Globes?

With the 2016 Golden Globes coming up on Sunday night, and Leonardo DiCaprio pretty much guaranteed to attend (he is nominated in the best actor category for his intense role in The Revenant), we’d be remiss not to take a look back at how crazy cute he was at age 19 on his first Golden Globes red carpet in 1994. He was at the award show for What’s Eating Gilbert Grape?—and his heartthrob reign was just beginning. Floppy-haired Leo was about a year or two out from shooting Titanic (it premiered at the end of December), which means that most of our tween selves had yet to develop raging crushes on him. (But, oh boy, did that time come!)

We still think Leo is pretty dreamy, but we’ve got another good example of how little time changes things. When the teen walked the carpet in ’94 he brought his mom, Irmelin Indenbirken DiCaprio, a now-familiar award show fixture when it comes to the A-lister. The actor is widely acknowledged as one of the world’s best sons, bringing his momma along for the ride (and buying her mega presents—hi, $10,000 Chanel bag scored at an auction in Cannes). It’s extra adorable to realize that he’s always been this dedicated, huh?
