Clothes For Girls Who Like Boy’s Clothes, But Don’t Actually Want to Borrow Them

A few weeks ago I scrolled upon a tweet from the ever-fabulous and funny Leandra Medine a.k.a. Man Repeller. In reference to one of fashion’s most famous mantras of late, she urged us “to stop calling it ‘borrowed from the boys’ because a. we stole it, b. we’re doing it considerably better,” and I couldn’t agree more. From boyfriend jeans, to oversize outerwear and oxfords, there are lots of us girls out there in fashionland who appreciate guys’ clothes but don’t actually want to borrow from their closets. It’s been proved that with a little bit of balance, menswear really can be flirty, fun, and the perfect approach to transition dressing. After all, what’s cooler than a girl who can hang with the guys?

Always pushing the envelope with her quirky-coolness, I’m loving this simple fall daytime look on the aforementioned Leandra and will definitely be sporting a pair of loafers with my favorite flirty skirt ASAP. Layer on a pair of tights and a leather jacket for chillier temperatures.

Speaking of loafers, I’m all about this schoolboy-chicness that’s going on this fall. As Chelsea Leyland showed us at the Whitney Gala, even something as simple as buttoning up all the way gives off a certain kind of polish to any sort of blouse or dress. And when paired with printed heels and a rad clutch make for some serious je-ne-sais-quoi-sexy.

We all know that nobody does it better than Jenna Lyons. What makes this look work? Immaculate tailoring, solid accessories, and the accent of a fierce ladylike sandal. Not only comfy but truly flattering on a variety of shapes and sizes!
