Gigi Hadid May Or May Not Have Borrowed Her Outfit From Lizzie McGuire
As if we needed another reason to love Bella and Gigi Hadid—their enviable street style, their laid-back L.A. vibes, the genuine-seeming niceness—the model sisters gave us one more surprisingly relatable item to add to the list: They’re as obsessed with Lizzie McGuire as the rest of us… and Gigi has the outfit to prove it.
To attend the official launch party for her collaboration with Vogue Eyewear in New York, the older of the duo wore a pink metallic pantsuit by Kreist, the emerging label by Central Saint Martins graduate Krzysztof Strozyna, and matching platform heels by Aquazzura. While the look was pulled from the designer’s ’70s-inspired fall 2017 collection, it felt plucked straight out of Lizzie McGuire’s wardrobe—well, technically, from Lizzie-as-Isabella-Parigi, since, as Elle pointed out, it very closely resembled the silvery-blue getup the then-rising high school freshman picked out for her big debut as an Italian pop star in The Lizzie McGuire Movie.
While Lizzie’s skin-tight, monochromatic ensemble consisted of a structured bedazzled top featuring a small cutout in the front panel to show off her belly button and a matching pair of majorly flared pants, Gigi gave the look a 2017 update: The top is now a leather jacket, with extra-long fringe and silver hardware, while the bottoms are high-waisted leather.
Though Gigi and stylist Mimi Cuttrell may not have landed on Kreist’s metallic suit to pay homage to Lizzie McGuire’s memorable on-stage debut, sister Bella was quick to point out the uncanny resemblance, commenting on her sister’s Instagram photo of the outfit: “GIGI YOU ARE LIZZIE MCGUIRE FINALLY WE DREAMT OF THIS MOMENT (or maybe only I did) HOLT [sic] SH*T YESSSSS @GIGIHADID U R LIFEEEEE.” Same, Bella. Same.
A metallic leather pantsuit is no biggie for the international supermodel—after all, we’re talking about the person who recently took such (temporary) beauty leaps with a bright pink wig (in honor of her 22nd birthday) and a platinum-blonde pixie-cut one (for April Fool’s Day), and who might be the only shopper to convincingly wear those jeans that detach into Daisy Dukes. An evening in a shiny, flared-leg set? That’s just another day in the life of a Hadid. Only one question remains: Does this make little brother Anwar their Matt?!
