Surprise! Juicy Couture Just Revealed Its New Creative Director

“When I was a kid,” says celebrity stylist Jamie Mizrahi, “my best friend’s grandmother met Pam [Skaist-Levy] and Gela [Nash-Taylor], the founders of Juicy Couture. They sent her tons of tracksuits for us, which was like someone sending a billion dollars.” Needless to say, in Mizrahi—who, pause to be impressed, is only 29—Juicy has found the perfect new creative director.

Her day-one plans? “Updating the silhouettes of the iconic pieces,” she says. “I’m really excited about the high-waisted track pants and pullover hoodies.” Next up: seasonal jewelry collabs, a men’s line, and customizable styles. Which makes sense, given that one-of-a-kind looks are Mizrahi’s M.O.. She made a name for herself with distinctly personalized styling for clients like Katy Perry, Nicole Richie, and Sasha Lane. So now, her tips on making any look—including her new Juicy pieces—your own:

1. Dress for yourself—not anyone else. “I style Sasha how I think Sasha should be styled,” says Mizrahi (no relation to the designer Isaac, BTW). “I dress Katy how I think Katy should be dressed. It’s all based on where they are in their careers. You have to do that for you—what’s right for where you live, what you’re doing, where you’re at in life.”

2. Choose comfort first, always. “And I don’t necessarily mean comfort as in sweatpants!” she says. “Some people are comfortable and confident in heels and a pencil skirt. For others, it’s wide-legged pants and a crop top. But if you’re wearing a jacket where the shoulder pads don’t sit right, or shoes that you can’t walk in—I think people can tell.”

3. Know your go-tos. “I believe in having a uniform and building from there,” says Mizrahi. “I have every single version of a white button-down: long ones, short ones, oversize ones, ones with pinstripes. Then I layer them under sweaters or over dresses—that’s my thing.”

4. But break your own rules. “Right now I’m wearing all white with a black jacket—I get the simplicity thing,” she says. “But red—like the dress I’m wearing in the pic above—is a color I love too. I have clients who say, ‘I will never wear red,’ but if there’s something red in a silhouette that I know would look amazing on them, I say, ‘We should try this, because it feels like an exception, and there are always exceptions to a rule.’”
