You Asked, We Answered: Michelle Williams is Our Style Icon of the Week!

Ask and you shall receive. Or more specifically Glamour commenter leolsen2011, who told us she’d love to see Michelle Williams as the Style Icon of the Week before 2013 is over. The red carpet risk taker and thrice Oscar-nominated star is quite overdue for this honor, don’t you think? So without further ado, let’s get this retrospective started!

While she hit our radar as the long-suffering (and ultimately doomed) Jen Lindley on Dawson’s Creek, after the show ended, Michelle garnered the critical praise (and her first Oscar nomination) for role in the 2005 movie Brokeback Mountain. Here she is working the awards circuit at the Golden Globes—where she was also a nominee—wearing a beautifully tiered tulle Givenchy gown.

There is no Michelle Williams best gowns list (or best gowns of all time by anyone tally) without her iconic (yes, I’m going to use that word) canary yellow Vera Wang gown at the 2006 Academy Awards. This is hands down my favorite look ever and ever, and I’m pretty sure I’m not the only one.

And the next year she cut her hair into the famous pixie! But this is a fashion list, so let’s talk about her retro-cool embellished Chloé shift dress, flawlessly appropriate for the Independent Spirit Awards. Super cute and perfect to go with her new coif.

In 2012, that makes three Academy Award nominations under her belt with her turn as Marilyn Monroe in My Week With Marilyn. And that means another killer appearance on the red carpet, this time in an exquisite peplum gown by Louis Vuitton. (She stars in the label’s fall handbag campaign too.)

Can we all agree that Michelle has the BEST grow-out hair? Here’s the demure actress working her rebel look in a Saint Laurent gown and a spiky crowned faux-side-hawk at the punk-themed Met Gala earlier this year. If you look really closely, her Olympia Le Tan book-slash-clutch cover reads “so you thought punk was dead?”

We love that the style icon isn’t ever afraid to experiment with shapes, styles, color. Michelle snagged first dibs on an avant garde Louis Vuitton spring 2014 navy-and-blue tunic dress for Miami Art Basel earlier this week and she’s owning it.

Which look do you like best? So is the canary Vera Wang gown one of your favorites too (please, please)?
