These Weed Tampons Could Help Mellow Your Cramps

Research has suggested that marijuana can provide pain relief, so it’s starting to occur to people that weed just might help with period cramps. Bad PMS is grounds for [a medical marijuana card in California, and New Jersey recently proposed legislation that would let doctors prescribe pot for menstrual cramps. But for women outside those states, here’s one way you can use weed to ease your period discomfort: cannabis tampons.

Yup, FORIA is now selling packs of four cannabis-based suppositories shaped like tampons. Don’t let the shape mislead you, though— it’s unclear how absorbent they are. One reviewer did, however, write that she inserted it with a tampon applicator.

And don’t worry—FORIA wants you to know they’re not trying to get you stoned. “FORIA Relief has been carefully crafted using a delivery system intended to maximize the muscle relaxing and pain relieving properties of cannabis without inducing a psychotropic ‘high,'” the product description reads, explaining that the cannabinoid compounds that make up the product, which also contains Organic Fair Trade Cocoa Butter, block pain receptors in the uterus, cervix, and ovaries. “The vaginal suppository format helps deliver the medicine directly to where it is needed most,” the page explains.

This is actually just one of many ways people are using marijuana to make periods less unpleasant. FORIA itself makes lube that doubles as period pain relief. There are also capsules you can insert to relieve period cramps and a set of salves, bath soaks, tinctures, and edibles created by Whoopi Goldberg for the same purpose. Soon, there could be an entire industry built around getting vaginas stoned.
