DIY Time: Turn Your Old Jean Jacket Into A Chic New Vest

Denim vests are having a serious resurgence this spring–thank the Texas Tuxedo trend or celebs like Sienna Miller and Kim Kardashian–and you don’t need anything more than your old jean jacket and a pair of kitchen scissors to make your own. Just get a sharp pair of shears and cut off the sleeves about an inch away from the seam where the sleeve and shoulder meet, to allow yourself some room for error. Then go back in with the scissor and get as close to the shoulder seam as possible–if you like a little shredding and the tattered look your old cutoffs have, leave a bit of extra fabric on there to get destroyed with each wash.

Once your new vest is finished, throw it on over floral dresses with chunky boots for a boho-meets-California-girl summer look, like Sienna, or layer it over a long white tank and leggings for a cute-but-comfortable outfit to run errands in:
