The Eggplant Emoji Vibrator Is More Than Just a Novelty

From extremely on-trend unicorn dildos to incognito sex toys that look (alarmingly) like makeup sponges to actual rubber duckies that vibrate, no one should ever want for an unusual sex toy. We’re drawn to novelty, especially when it means making sex toys even more nonthreatening. What’s wrong with making orgasms more accessible, right?

But none of these bizarre and gimmicky pleasure products has sent us into a tizzy quite like the eggplant emoji vibrator from Emojibator (they also make a hot pepper emoji vibe). It has everything we love wrapped up into one item: sex, technology, and a cheeky Internet joke.

Now, call me a skeptic, but I tend to be wary of sex toys based on pop culture. A lot of them trade function for “fun,” making them impractical, poorly made, and unable to complete the job. Aesthetic can be great—look at the Form II or the Minna Limón—but at the end of the day a vibrator should make you orgasm, regardless of how cute and winky it is.

Which is why, though the Emojibator was a bit of a viral hit when it launched, I had my doubts about its effectiveness. Do I use the eggplant emoji to represent dicks in my iMessages all day long? Of course. Does that mean it will translate into actual pleasure when in vibrator form? I decided to find out.

The eggplant vibe is made of body-safe silicone, is easy to use, has 10 different settings, and is 100 percent waterproof. It’s very cute and really does look exactly like the eggplant emoji. To that end, it would make an adorable gift for a novelty lover, and it’s ideal for bachelorette parties.

Would I buy it for myself, an experienced sex-toy user? Honestly, it’s kind of questionable.

For one thing, it’s battery-operated, which is a negative for me. I prefer vibrators that charge by USB, because it’s kind of a mood killer to have to go and find batteries every time your vibrator dies. C’mon, it’s 2017: Modern vibes should charge like a cell phone.

The vibrator also has 10 different vibration patterns, which is a nice touch. Unfortunately, to turn it off you have to cycle through all of them, which results in clicking 10 times. As you can imagine, this can get a bit tedious. I found that only the second setting truly worked to my satisfaction: the highest, most steady vibration.

Likewise, the vibe is not super powerful. The other patterns were interesting, but not intense enough to give me an orgasm. Other than the second setting, the others felt weak overall. What it was missing for me was pinpointed vibration—other vibes are better designed for targeted clit stimulation, whereas the rounded top of the eggplant kind of dulled the sensation. The form tended to get in the way of the function.

That said, it was a nice addition to being with my partner. I was a little worried introducing it betwixt the sheets, since it’s clearly pretty silly-looking. But that made it nonthreatening for couple’s play, and my partner even liked the sensation on himself, calling it “intense” (we clearly have two different definitions of what this word means).

Obviously, it’s not the sexiest toy you’ve ever seen, but bringing an eggplant emoji vibrator the size of a finger into the bedroom shows a good sense of humor. Snaps all around!

For me, the overall weakness of the sensation was a drawback, so I probably wouldn’t introduce it to my regular arsenal. I do, however, think it’s a perfect starter vibe for someone brand-new to sex toys—and that’s really who Emojibator should target.

Sex toys can be intimidating. At no point during our sex education are we taught enough about them or our own pleasure, and in addition to having a ton of options on the market, many toys also tend to look like bright purple, eight-inch penises—not exactly inviting to someone who just wants to find out what they’re into.

That’s why, for a novice, an Emoji eggplant vibrator is a great choice. It’s cute, familiar, and costs only $33. If you’re new to the vibe market yourself or know a newbie who needs a sex toy, I’d recommend this vibe. It’s easy to use, straightforward and gets the job done (if you give it some time).
