Urban Decay Is Launching a New Naked Palette, and We Tried It on 3 Skin Tones

If you have even the faintest interest in eyeshadow, you’ve probably heard about the famous Urban Decay Naked palettes. And if you’re obsessed with a good smoky eye or just a perfect mix of shades that’ll give you plenty of options to go minimal or all out, you know Urban Decay’s Naked palettes. Hell, you probably have an entire collection of them!

UD’s Naked palettes have been some of the best-selling beauty products (and award-winners) since the OG launch in 2010. And almost every year since the brand has graced us with a new addition. It’s always shocking, because how do you top something that already has everything? Well, in the case of UD, you create another something we all never knew we needed, and that’s exactly what the new Urban Decay Naked Heat palette is. A need.

The Internet has been buzzing about what the brand could be up to next since it’s been dropping some hints via Twitter and throwing it back to the other five full-sized palettes on Instagram lately. With a little digging, some clever Redditors found the brand’s recent trademarks for the names “Naked Scorched” and “Naked Heat.”

It turns out the Reddit theories about a new warm-toned palette were right. Naked Heat is filled with 12 new shadows that range from a pink-toned nude to coppery brown, with shades of brick in between. UD calls it an “auburn-inspired, warm, steamy, sultry set of colors.” We call it a trend lover’s late-summer dream. Each shade mimics a hot night on the beach and the changing leaves in autumn, and the colors fall right in line with the rusty reds and maroons that have been popping up on celebrities and Insta feeds. Subtle and sexy, which is exactly how UD founder Wende Zomnir feel about it. “I’ve never been able to say this about a Naked palette, but this is the first Naked palette that satisfies both my need for neutrals and my craving for rich, sexy color,” she told Allure.

True to UD form, the colors are creamy and pigmented and there are plenty of options to create a neutral, understated eye or a super-smoky, bombshell look—and they all look hot on a variety of skin tones. We know because we put them to the test. Here are all the shades swatched on three Glamour staffers:

  • Ounce: a satin champagne

  • Chaser: a nude clay

  • Sauced: a warm taupe

  • Low Blow: a toasted almond

  • Lumbre: a burnt rose gold

  • He Devil: a spicy paprika

  • Dirty Talk: a fiery gold

  • Scorched: a shimmering rust

  • Cayenne: a baked brick

  • En Fuego: a charred red

  • Ashes: a deep oxblood

  • Ember: a blackened copper

The best part? The brand isn’t stopping at just the palette. It’s launching a limited-edition mini Heat collection too. In addition to the palette, there will be three new Vice Lipsticks in the shades Fuel (a warm, peachy nude), Heat (a metallic rust), and Scorched (a shimmering copper) and two new 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencils in Alkaline (a deep burgundy) and Torch (a burnt cayenne).

A limited quantity presale of the Heat collection will be available for UD Beauty Junkies at urbandecay.com on June 12. Fear not if you’re not able to get your hands on it then. The whole line officially hits shelves on June 30, so you’ve got a few weeks to think up new ways to play with these fiery shades. (Some inspo, here.) The palette will be available for $54, the lipsticks will be $17 each, and the pencils will be $20 a piece. You’ll have to get it all while it’s hot because we have a feeling they’ll be burning holes in wallets fast.
