Why Your Shimmery Eye Makeup Looks Aren’t as Heavenly as Gigi Hadid’s

If your eyes don’t end up looking as goddess-y as Gigi Hadid’s did at the 2015 MuchMusic Video Awards in Canada when you go for shimmery eye makeup, well, there’s a reason. And, no, it doesn’t have to do with her being a supermodel or her very impressive genes. It’s a makeup move you can copy, we swear.

Notice that the shimmery rose gold eyeshadow isn’t just on Gigi’s lids, is all over her orbital area, including just above her eyebrows, which is how she looks a little more ethereal than everyone else.

Now, there are a couple of key things here to note. The first is that the shimmer that’s not on her actual eyelids is very very subtle—it’s a wash, not a true layer of eyeshadow. So after you apply around your eyes, blow almost all the excess off your brush and then very lightly fluff the shimmer around in a bigger circle.

And the second thing is that the shadow Lee used has the finest shimmer bits in it ever. Anything bigger would have just read “My face is a disco ball and it’s coming for you.” The palette that will get you there: Maybelline’s The Blushed Nudes ($9.99, ulta.com). It’s an entire selection of shimmery beige-pinks for you to play with until you find your perfect one.
